President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to open 5 branches of reputable foreign universities
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ordered to increase the accessibility of higher education and open five branches of reputable foreign universities. At the same time, two branches of universities with a technical focus need to be opened in the west of the country.
The President noted that special attention needs to be paid to the allocation of targeted grants for young people from densely populated regions of the country. To build a new economy, it is important to increase the competitiveness of universities.
Signing of a Memorandum between the Kazakh-German University and the Sh. Yessenov Caspian University of Technology and Engineering
On August 26, 2022, DKU President Volrad Rommel and Yessenov University President Berik Akhmetov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation as part of the joint implementation of the international project “Mangystau School of Sustainable Engineering” in Western Kazakhstan. The project is aimed at introducing German standards in obtaining higher engineering education in the field of hydrogen energy.
Planning to open an engineering institute according to German standards in Mangistau
On the basis of the Caspian University of Technology and Engineering named after Shahmardan Yessenov (Yessenov University), together with the Kazakh-German University, it is planned to open the Kazakh-German Institute of Sustainable Engineering. Training should start in two specialties: “Logistics” and “Energy and Environmental Engineering”. According to the rector of Yessenov University Berik Akhmetov, new opportunities will help prevent the outflow of young people from Kazakhstan.
Signing of partnership agreements with German universities
At HAW HAMBURG, a leading university in Northern Germany, partnership agreements were in progress with German universities. The Hamburg University of Applied Sciences is a renowned institution dedicated to developing sustainable solutions to the social problems of today and tomorrow. HAW Hamburg is a partner of more than 100 European universities, as well as universities in North and South America, Asia and the Middle East. A partnership agreement with this university will lead to the expansion of the curriculum, inviting professors to our country to exchange experience, academic mobility, and three diplomas of education. A number of joint projects in energy and ecology are planned with German colleagues.
With the new academic year, the Kazakh-German Institute will begin accepting students for new in-demand professions.

At the meeting, a consultation was held on the structure of the engineering institute, which will open on the basis of Yessenov University. Strategic directions, portfolios of educational programs, the period of their implementation, and a plan for the development of cooperation in science with German partner universities within the framework of a joint institute were also discussed.
The prospects for quality training of personnel in higher engineering education in the areas of Energy, ecology and land resources, flow logistics systems, advanced engineering, Petrochemicals, Information technology and digitalization were discussed.
This meeting gave a powerful impetus to the work of the Kazakh-German Engineering Institute, founded in the Mangistau region.

As a result of the completed state visit of the Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Kazakhstan, 10 agreements on further cooperation in the field of science and higher education were signed between Kazakhstan and Germany.
The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany, signed as part of the negotiations between the presidents of Kazakhstan and Germany in Akorda, will become the basic document of long-term cooperation between our countries for the next decade in the field of higher education and science.

Official opening of the Kazakh-German Institute for Sustainable Engineering
At the solemn ceremony, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov laid a memorial capsule at the site of the construction of the new building of the institute. Also taking part in the ceremony were the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Akim of the Mangistau region Nurlan Nogaev, President of the Kazakh-German University Volrad Rommel and President of Yessenov University Berik Akhmetov.
Meeting of the Kazakh-German Institute for Sustainable Engineering with the first students
As part of the Knowledge Day, the first meeting of the Kazakh-German Institute for Sustainable Engineering with students took place.
Applicants who score high in exams and pass special tests are the first students of the new institute. Two groups were assembled and opened in the specialties “Logistics” and “Energy and Environmental Engineering”.
The following people came to congratulate them and wish them good luck: President of the Kazakh-German University Volrad Rommel, President of Yessenov University Berik Akhmetov and head of the communications department of the representative office of Svevind Energy GmbH in Kazakhstan Nikolai Putilin. At the meeting, the history of the opening of the institute was told, goals and objectives were presented. The students were given instructions and parting words.
